Sorry that I haven't been posting recently. I've been kept busy by a recent assignment which had me photographing Montreal from above and from street level. These images are 2 self portraits that I took while on the quest for the right light and the right vantage point. The first one is on the top floor of the Marriott in the women's washroom. There's a great view of the city from up there!

Two more scenes from Florida. Weird empty parking lot at "The Best Beach in Florida!", and storm looming on another Floridian beach.

I'm going global! Brasilian magazine Revista Gloss featured my "Why am I marrying him?" series in their latest issue. I've been getting emails from Brasilian fans but have been having a hard time communicating since I don't know Portuguese. I think I will go outside with the magazine and ask one of my Portuguese neighbours to translate it for me.

Update: So my neighbour doesn't have great eye sight but he was able to make out the title which says something to the effect of: "Would you marry a person with this face?" Hilarious!

Back to Florida and a cheesy Motel of ours.

More from Frank Lloyd Wright's Florida Southern College. I do hope that you all took the time to look at Chris Mottalini's work. I was just looking at his images again and there is so much going on in them. I mean there's the window light, the graphics and form of the architect's lines, the textures of the materials, and the way in which these beautiful buildings fit in with their surroundings. He is definitely doing Paul Rudolph justice. I am preparing an architecture slideshow for my class tomorrow. Now all I have to do is infect my students with the enthusiasm I have. Hopefully early tomorrow morning that will still be possible!

While in Florida we made a quick stop in Lakeland to see the Florida Southern College whose whole campus and 12 of its buildings were designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. I was definitely inspired to tackle this subject by Chris Mottalini's work which I become aware of just before our trip. Check out his images of Paul Rudolph homes that were slatted to be demolished here. They are quite something.

More images from our recent road trip. This was my first time ever to Florida and it was really nice to see the pastel-cement-block-bungalow in its natural habitat. Occasionally you see one here and I always thought that they looked so weird. In fact I thought that they were quite ugly, but seeing them as they are meant to be allowed me to really appreciate them. In fact I became quite enamoured with this style and spent some time trying to capture it. As an aside the birds in the second photo are White Ibis. Perhaps not exciting to locals but I just loved watching them forage on this person's front lawn.

First photos from my recent trip down south. These cars were all photographed in Florida. The palm trees and the colours that exist down there really made an impression on me and I was often trying to adjust my eye to this new situation. The fact that there were so many of these old classics was also completely different and something that I really enjoyed. Our northern winter with its cold and salt doesn't allow for cars to have such a long lifespan.

Some recent photos I took of author Rawi Hage for the Canadian literary magazine Quill & Quire. Just two weeks ago Rawi found out that he was this year's winner of the IMPAC Dublin Literary Award. This is the world's richest literary award and it went to a Montrealer! Congrats Rawi! His book "DeNiro's Game" is a really interesting inside look at Lebanon's civil war. Before his very successful literary career Rawi was a successful fine art photographer. Such a wealth of creativity found in one person!

In reorganizing my photos I found some more hockey fan portraits and I couldn't pass up on the chance to show you these 2. What great characters. I got back the tons of images from my recent honeymoon road trip and will post them very soon!
