Above are some outtakes from my cross photos for Walrus. I put them up now for a few reasons. Firstly Jaspreet Singh, who wrote the story accompanying the photos, emailed me to say that he missed Montreal and enjoyed seeing the photo I took - so these are for you Jaspreet. Secondly I just heard that they will be refurbishing the cross this coming year. I don't know if that means taking it down but I hope not. It's not that I'm religious, quite the opposite in fact. It's just that it's a constant light looking down on us, somehow comforting. Also, after reading Jaspreet's story I like to think that it's a plus sign, and that makes me laugh. I include the dyptich on the bottom because I realize that I shot them on different nights and I am amazed that the angle is so similar. I guess I knew what I wanted.

i heard they are taking down the cross and replacing it with a giant ankh as a sop to the goth community
ReplyDeleteWhat's an ankh Mark?
ReplyDeleteI heard it was going to be replaced by Odin's Horn and not and Ankh (egyptian love life symbol or something like that). Id rather see a giant Steamer up there though (no bun)

If you missed Chris' reference (as I did) he meant a steamed hot dog or a steamé.
ReplyDeleteMy mum was quite proud of you when she saw your photo in the Walrus!! And I am EXTREMELY proud of you too!! Annie. (Thank you for explaining Chris' reference - I did not catch it!). Annie.
