Recently I was able to spend some time in Onterrible (translation: Ontario) catching up with these wonderful people. OK so maybe it's not so terrible now that there are so many more great people there, but I'm a Montrealer so its my duty to talk bad about our neighbouring province. I do like The Stephen Bulger Gallery and a break from French can be nice for a little while. (Annie I'm sorry that I didn't make it to Peterborough, time was short. Next time I promise!)

In other news: I need your help. I have been testing my new website on as many computers as I can and it's been fine up until one test this week where I used Explorer on a PC. All you PC users out there can you let me know if you have any problems with it? That would really help me figure out what's going on. Thanks!

Self Portrait. I know it's a but cheesy, what with the photographer starring into the light and all. I think it works though because as a photographer light has always been the thing that initially draws me to a situation. To me light is a wonderful and joyful thing that continually surprises and excites me.

More from the kitchen. Another favourite of mine when it comes to still lifes in the Newfoundland painter Mary Pratt. Her ability to capture textures like aluminum foil and wax paper is just incredible. And she went to my alma mater Mount Allison so that always helps. Go here to see some of her work.

More from the kitchen counter. I think I'll go check it out now and maybe do some dishes while I'm there.

Recently I've become obsessed with my kitchen counter. I photograph it just about every day.
I got a whole lot of that work back yesterday so I will be sharing some it with you in the next couple of days. As with most images because they are so new and I had such high expectations for them, I don't like them right now, but hopefully they will grow on me. I think my favourite is still the tupperware posted on Jan 9th. I just bought a Laura Letinsky book last week and I'm hoping that it's going to motivate me to do amazing things. Check her out here. She's a must see.

From an old shoot I did of Canadian author Charlotte Gray.

I will be out of town for the rest of the week so have a good one and I'll see you next week!

"I think we have been too quick to dismiss what city people can know about nature. Their deprivation may actually help them to see better the few animals that they are allowed"
Robert Adams from Why People Photograph

Upon reading this line last night I was immediately brought back to my pigeon days. I spent a good two years obsessing over pigeons. I even named my cat after them. Living in a pretty dense area of the city where there is little in the way of wildlife, watching pigeons was an attempt to fill this void. Most people could not understand why I wanted to photograph these "flying rats" and I always hoped that the photos would reveal their true beauty and allow people to see them the way I do.

Another photo that didn't make the cut in my new website. I love it though. A nice combination of disturbing and beautiful.

I have had some promo cards made and will be sending them out in the next week or 2. If you would like me to send you one and you think that you're probably not on my list, email me your address at kate@katehutchinson.com and I'll see what I can do!

After great response to my Why am I marrying him? I thought I would share with you a few photos that didn't make the final cut.

Yay, My website is finally done! New look and tons of new photos. Same address as before:
www.katehutchinson.com
It loads all at once so you do have to wait a few seconds at first but from then on everything should be really fast. Now I just have to work on the million other things that I have put aside in order to get this done! Oh and a big thanks to Chris for all his help with site design, putting it together and uploading it. I decided not to put up artist statements for the 3 personal projects and the "Why am I marrying him?" may concern some people. Not to worry, it's more about relationships in general, how we decide on choosing one person over another, and the huge range of personality that one person can offer. Enjoy.
